Key tips for renting a student room in Córdoba

At Flatroomers we visit many rooms every year and we know very well what makes the difference between just any room… and a room where you’ll truly feel comfortable. Here’s a visual guide with the key points you should check before renting your room.

📏 1. Enough space and good layout

A room doesn’t need to be huge, but it does need to be practical and comfortable.

  • Comfortable space to move around.
  • Practical layout, without furniture getting in the way.
  • Separate areas: bed, study and storage.

A well-organised room helps you study better and feel more at ease.

🛏 2. Comfortable bed in good condition

It sounds obvious, but it’s not always the case. Pay special attention to:

  • Firm, clean mattress. Many landlords don’t invest in a good mattress: check it or ask about it.
  • Good ventilation in the room (windows, airflow, orientation).
  • Basic bedding or at least a bedspread/blanket/duvet. After COVID it’s common that sheets are not included for hygiene reasons, but some type of cover should normally be provided.

Typical bed sizes in Spain are 90 / 105 / 135 / 150 cm. Ask or check before you arrive.

💻 3. Large desk and comfortable chair

This is one of the most important elements in a student room.

  • Decent-sized desk where you can place your laptop, notes and books.
  • Comfortable chair (ideally ergonomic, but at least not a hard dining chair).
  • Good lighting: natural light or a proper study lamp.

You’ll spend many hours studying here: this is non-negotiable.

👚 4. Good wardrobe and storage space

You’ll need space for clothes, notes, suitcases and personal items.

  • Spacious wardrobe (if it’s very small, it will feel full very quickly).
  • Some drawers, shelves or a chest of drawers to organise things better.
  • If possible, extra space under the bed or somewhere else in the room.

The more order you can maintain, the better your daily life will be.

🌞 5. Natural light and ventilation

The best rooms are bright, exterior and with large windows.

  • They improve your mood.
  • They help you concentrate better when studying.
  • They help prevent damp and bad smells.

If you can choose, always prioritise a room with good natural light.

🚿 6. Private bathroom or good shared conditions

A private bathroom is a huge plus, especially in shared flats. If it’s shared, check:

  • Number of bathrooms in the flat. The fewer people per bathroom, the better.
  • Condition and cleanliness. In many Flatroomers properties there is regular cleaning and maintenance of common areas.

❄️🔥 7. Air conditioning or heating

In Córdoba this is essential.

  • Air conditioning for the summer.
  • Heating or heat pump for the winter.

Some rooms don’t have air conditioning, but because of the building layout and orientation they may not need it. Always ask beforehand.

🛗 8. Lift in the building: don’t overlook it

In Córdoba, especially in neighbourhoods like Ciudad Jardín, it’s very common to find older buildings without a lift.

Before booking, always ask:

  • Whether the building has a lift.
  • On which floor the flat is.
  • If there are any architectural barriers (steps at the entrance, between floors, etc.).

Climbing 4 or 5 floors every day can become your “new free gym”, but it’s better to know that beforehand.

🌐 9. High-speed internet

Essential for studying, doing assignments, video calls or watching series. These days, it’s common to have at least 600 Mb fibre.

  • Ask about the connection speed.
  • Check if the Wi-Fi is stable.
  • If the router is close to your room, even better for studying there.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 10. Flat atmosphere and housemates

Sometimes the flat’s atmosphere is more important than the room itself.

  • Whether they are students like you or people who work.
  • If there are basic house rules.
  • If it’s a quiet flat or a more social/party environment.

Look for a flat that matches your lifestyle and has some basic rules to avoid conflicts.

💸 11. Bills included and clear conditions

Having the financial part clear helps you avoid surprises at the end of the month.

  • Ask if the price includes electricity, water, gas and internet.
  • Find out if there are consumption limits (for example, up to X € per month).
  • If bills are paid separately, ask how much they usually cost per person per month.

At Flatroomers, all conditions are explained clearly and transparently before you book.

✅ Conclusion: what a good student room should be like

A good student room should be comfortable, functional and well equipped, with everything you need to study, rest and live well: a good mattress, desk and chair, natural light, storage, proper temperature control, internet and a flat with a good atmosphere.

If you’re looking for accommodation in Córdoba, at Flatroomers we offer carefully selected rooms for national and international students, Erasmus and other programmes.
